It may be an airtight lid, but you are left with all the air that is in the container.
I thought the product would pump the air out of the container and keep it out, creating a vacuum. My mistake.
It doesnt matter if outside air is kept out of the container, the air trapped inside will do the same damage to your food.

THESE CONTAINERS ARE GREAT FOR STORING “MY” PANTRY ITEMS. THEY ARE “SPACESAVERS” AND EASY TO HANDLE. I’VE RECOMMENDED THEM TO SEVERAL PEOPLE AND THEY ALSO LOVE THEM. THE ONLY “DRAWBACK” THEY ARE EXPENSIVE, I ONLY PURCHASE THEM WHEN ON SALE.

I purchased one of these OXO food storage containers at a local store a month ago, mostly because it was the only one I could find that was made with BPA/PVC/phthalate-free plastic. I am back on Amazon.com’s website today to buy more of these OXO containers. The one I bought a month ago for coffee storage is used everyday and still looks new, no scuff marks or scratches. I notice no difference in the freshness of the coffee from beginning to end. The container is easy to open and hold with my arthritic hands. The top comes apart easily if you want to give it a thorough washing, top dishwasher safe, too! This plastic will not leach into your food, which is the main reason I purchased this item. I bought several of the Oxo Good Grips Pop containers and they are excellent. They are easy to breakdown to wash, and just as easy to put together. They’re attractive and perform as advertised. I plan to get more as finances allow
